A workable, functional standard is at the very heart of the development of a liquid traded commodity market. This week, the globalBIOMASS team set its sights on identifying this holy grail.
The key to a good standard is balance; balance between a tight specification that ensures sufficient homogeneity, and with the quantity of material available that fits the spec.
A lot of excellent work has already been conducted in identifying a standard for the wood pellet market. By learning from this, and by consulting with a wide range of stakeholders representing consumers, producers and traders of wood pellets, globalBIOMASS will strive to pinpoint a standard that ticks all the boxes.
Some of the big questions we're looking at include:
* How can we ensure the standard will work in the context of the spot market?
* How can we ensure that the sustainability-related requirement are fully met?
* Which parameters should carry a price adjustment?
* Which parameters should allow rejection?

We hope to hear from you!
